For families in the USA

Arranging physiotherapy for your parents in India from the USA

Many of the families we work with are sons and daughters in the US whose parents live in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and other parts of India. The time difference, the distance and the cost of flying back for every health problem make it hard to be there. Here is how you can arrange physiotherapy for your parents at home in India and stay involved from the US.

Written by Dr. V. B. Rajendra Prasad, MPT, licensed in the US and UK. 20 years of clinical experience.

How it works

  1. 1

Message us on WhatsApp from your number abroad. Share your parent's reports, scans or discharge summary.

  2. 2

A Nuprana physiotherapist assesses your parent live on video at home in India, after screening for warning signs. You can join the call.

  3. 3

Your parent has regular 45 minute to 1 hour sessions with the same physiotherapist, usually daily, in Telugu, Hindi or English.

  4. 4

You receive progress updates, and Nuprie, our WhatsApp assistant, asks you and your parent for feedback so the plan keeps fitting.

Joining sessions across the time difference

India is 9.5 to 13.5 hours ahead of the mainland US. Your parent's sessions happen during their day in India, so a morning session in India falls on your previous evening, and an evening session in India falls on your morning.

Times shown are for US daylight saving time (March to early November). In winter, US times are one hour earlier. * Previous day in the US. Session times are examples. Your parent's schedule is agreed with them.

You do not need to join every session. Tell us which ones matter to you, such as the first assessment, and we will try to schedule them at a time you can make.

What may feel different from US physical therapy

In the US, physical therapy is often two or three visits a week with home exercises in between. Our packages use more frequent sessions, usually daily, with a physiotherapist guiding every exercise live. For older parents who may not keep up exercises reliably on their own, that supervision often matters most.

Our clinical director, Dr. V. B. Rajendra Prasad, is licensed as a physical therapist in New York state. Our clinical protocols draw on his experience of practising in the US, the UK and India.

Planning around your trips home

If you are flying home for a parent's surgery or a hospital stay, you can sit in on the first sessions, meet the physiotherapist and learn how to help. After you fly back, you keep following progress through updates and by joining sessions from the US.

A common pattern is to join the first assessment and then one session a week, and to follow the rest through progress updates and Nuprie's check-ins.

Paying from abroad

Payment is in Indian rupees, by an Indian debit or credit card or by UPI. We do not accept international cards.

Most families abroad pay from an NRE or NRO account, using its Indian card or UPI, or ask a family member in India to pay. Many NRIs can now use UPI on an NRE or NRO account with their overseas mobile number.

Frequently asked questions

Can I book from the US without calling India?
Yes. Message us on WhatsApp from your US number, share your parent's reports, and we arrange the video assessment directly with your parent at home. You can do everything by message.
How does this compare with physical therapy in the US?
Our approach is evidence-based and exercise-led, and our clinical director is licensed in New York. The main difference you will notice is frequency: our sessions are usually daily and fully supervised, which suits many older adults.
Will I get updates on my parent's progress?
Yes. Families receive progress updates during treatment. Nuprie, our WhatsApp assistant, also checks in periodically with you and your parent for feedback, and the physiotherapist uses it to adjust the plan.
Can my mother have a female physiotherapist?
Yes. You can ask for a female or male physiotherapist when you book, and we will match that preference.
