Online physiotherapy for Parkinson's disease

Exercise is one of the most useful things a person with Parkinson's can do, alongside the medicines their neurologist prescribes. Physiotherapy focuses on bigger movements, walking, balance, getting up from a chair or the floor, and strategies for freezing. These are skills practised at home, which is exactly where online sessions happen. Sessions available in English, Telugu, and Hindi, and you can ask for a female or male physiotherapist.

Why online physiotherapy works for Parkinson's disease

Parkinson's needs regular exercise over years. Sessions at home make that sustainable, especially as travel gets harder

Freezing and falls usually happen at home: in doorways, turning in the kitchen, or walking to the bathroom at night. Your physiotherapist sees those exact spaces

Sessions can be timed for when medicines work best, which makes exercise easier for many people with Parkinson's

A family member can join to learn cueing strategies and how to help safely

Position your phone or laptop so your physiotherapist can see you move. You need about 2 metres of space.

Your physiotherapist watches your movement, corrects your form, and guides you through exercises in real time. Each session is 45 minutes to 1 hour.

3

Progress and adjust

Your physiotherapist tracks your improvement each session and adjusts exercises as you get stronger. You also receive exercises to practice between sessions.

When in-person care is better

Contact the neurologist promptly for a sudden change in symptoms, new confusion or hallucinations, or a big change in how the medicines are working. After a fall with a head injury or severe pain, seek medical care first. If the person can no longer stand even with help, home visits or in-person care may be a better start.

Frequently asked questions

Can physiotherapy slow Parkinson's?
Physiotherapy cannot cure Parkinson's, and research is still working out whether exercise changes the course of the disease. What is well established is that regular exercise improves walking, balance, strength and confidence, and helps people stay independent for longer. That is the goal of every session.
What is freezing, and can it be helped?
Freezing is a sudden, brief feeling that your feet are stuck to the floor, often when starting to walk, turning or going through a doorway. Strategies like counting a rhythm, stepping over a line or shifting your weight before stepping help many people. Your physiotherapist practises these with you in the places freezing actually happens.
When is the best time of day for sessions?
Usually when the medicines are working well, often an hour or so after a dose. Tell us the medicine timings and we will schedule around them.
My father has Parkinson's and lives alone. Is online physiotherapy safe for him?
It depends on his balance. For standing balance and walking practice, someone should be nearby. If he lives alone, his physiotherapist will choose exercises that are safe seated or holding a counter, and may suggest that a family member or helper joins some sessions. They will also review fall risks in his home.

Arranging this for a parent?

Many of our patients are older adults whose sons and daughters live in other cities or abroad. You can book on WhatsApp from anywhere, join sessions by video and receive progress updates.
