Online physiotherapy for balance and fall prevention

Falls are one of the main reasons older adults lose their independence, and many falls can be prevented. Balance and leg strength respond to training at any age. Online sessions bring that training into the home, where most falls happen, with a physiotherapist watching closely and family able to join from wherever they live. Sessions available in English, Telugu, and Hindi, and you can ask for a female or male physiotherapist.

Why online physiotherapy works for balance and fall prevention

Most falls happen at home. Your physiotherapist sees the actual bathroom, stairs, lighting and loose rugs, and suggests changes

Balance and strength training works best when it is regular and continues over months, which is easier without travel

Many older adults find going out tiring or unsafe. Sessions at home remove that barrier

Sons and daughters in other cities or abroad can join sessions, receive progress updates and give feedback

How an online session works

1

Set up your space

Position your phone or laptop so your physiotherapist can see you move. You need about 2 metres of space.

2

Live assessment and treatment

Your physiotherapist watches your movement, corrects your form, and guides you through exercises in real time. Each session is 45 minutes to 1 hour.

3

Progress and adjust

Your physiotherapist tracks your improvement each session and adjusts exercises as you get stronger. You also receive exercises to practice between sessions.

What you need at home

A phone or tablet on a stand, or a family member to hold it
A sturdy chair without wheels and a kitchen counter to hold
Good lighting and a clear space
Comfortable shoes with a good grip
A family member or helper nearby for balance work

What a typical course looks like

Sessions 1 to 5

Assessment, a home safety review and a safe starting routine, mostly seated or holding support.

Sessions 6 to 20

Gradually harder balance and strength exercises, walking practice and getting up from the floor.

Sessions 21 to 30

A routine your parent can keep up independently, and a plan for the family to support it.

This is a typical outline, not a fixed schedule. Your physiotherapist adjusts it to your progress and your doctor's advice.

When in-person care is better

After a fall, seek medical care first for a head injury, new confusion, being unable to stand or put weight on a leg, severe pain, or any head knock in someone taking blood thinners. Sudden dizziness, weakness on one side, slurred speech or fainting also need a doctor urgently. If someone cannot stand even with help, start with home visits or in-person care.

Frequently asked questions

Is balance training at home safe for an elderly person?
Yes, when it is set up properly. Your physiotherapist starts with exercises done seated or holding a counter, asks that someone is nearby for standing balance work, and only makes exercises harder when your parent is steady. Safety comes first in every session.
Can balance really improve at 75 or 80?
Yes. Studies of exercise programmes for older adults show that regular balance and strength training reduces falls, including in people over 80. Progress is slower than at 40, but it is real, and it makes a difference to confidence and independence.
My parents live in another city. Can I arrange this for them?
Yes. You can book on WhatsApp from anywhere, join the video calls and receive progress updates. Nuprie, our WhatsApp assistant, also checks in for your feedback. Our page on physiotherapy for elderly parents explains how families use the service.
What if my parent is not comfortable with technology?
A family member or helper can set up the phone for the first few sessions, and after that your parent usually only needs to answer a video call. Your physiotherapist will keep the setup as simple as possible.

Arranging this for a parent?

Many of our patients are older adults whose sons and daughters live in other cities or abroad. You can book on WhatsApp from anywhere, join sessions by video and receive progress updates.
