Online physiotherapy for shoulder pain

Most shoulder pain that is not frozen shoulder comes from the rotator cuff, the group of muscles and tendons that steady the shoulder joint. It often shows up as pain lifting the arm, reaching behind the back or lying on that side at night. The main treatment is a well-judged strengthening programme, which can be guided closely on video. Sessions available in English, Telugu, and Hindi, and you can ask for a female or male physiotherapist.

Why online physiotherapy works for shoulder pain and rotator cuff

Rotator cuff problems respond best to progressive strengthening, and choosing the right starting level and pace is what your physiotherapist adjusts each session

Your physiotherapist can see your shoulder from the front, side and back on camera, and watch your shoulder blade as you lift your arm

Habits like reaching to high shelves, long desk hours or carrying heavy bags can be seen and changed

Painful sleeping positions can be talked through and adjusted with pillows you already have

What we assess via video

Movement in all directions, on your own and with help
A painful arc when lifting the arm
Shoulder blade movement and posture
Strength tests using simple resistance
Neck screening, since neck problems can cause shoulder pain
Sleeping position and daily tasks that hurt

What treatment includes

Graded strengthening for the rotator cuff, guided by pain
Shoulder blade and upper back exercises
Gradual return of overhead strength and range
Posture and workstation changes
Sleeping position advice
Return to sport or gym training

How an online session works

1

Set up your space

Position your phone or laptop so your physiotherapist can see you move. You need about 2 metres of space.

2

Live assessment and treatment

Your physiotherapist watches your movement, corrects your form, and guides you through exercises in real time. Each session is 45 minutes to 1 hour.

3

Progress and adjust

Your physiotherapist tracks your improvement each session and adjusts exercises as you get stronger. You also receive exercises to practice between sessions.

When in-person care is better

See a doctor first if you suddenly cannot lift your arm after a fall or injury, or the shoulder looks deformed. Shoulder or arm pain with chest pain, breathlessness or sweating can be a sign of a heart problem and needs emergency care. A hot, red, swollen shoulder or shoulder pain with fever also needs a doctor.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if it is frozen shoulder or a rotator cuff problem?
In frozen shoulder, the shoulder is stiff in every direction, even when someone else tries to move it for you. With rotator cuff problems, movement is usually painful but possible, especially with help. Your physiotherapist tests this in the first session, and the answer changes the treatment completely.
My MRI shows a rotator cuff tear. Do I need surgery?
Not always. Many partial tears, and some full tears in older adults, do well with a strengthening programme. Surgery is more often considered for large tears after an injury, especially in younger active people, or when strength does not improve with good rehab. Your physiotherapist will tell you if a surgeon's opinion is worth getting.
How long until my shoulder feels better?
Tendon problems usually improve over several weeks to a few months of steady exercise. Many people notice less night pain and easier movement within the first few weeks. Your physiotherapist tracks your range, strength and pain so progress is measurable.
