Online physiotherapy after a fracture

When a cast, splint or sling comes off, the bone may have healed but the joint is usually stiff and the muscles weak. Physiotherapy brings back movement and strength, and after a leg fracture it helps you walk normally again. Your doctor decides how much weight and movement are safe. Your physiotherapist turns that into a daily plan. Sessions available in English, Telugu, and Hindi, and you can ask for a female or male physiotherapist.

Why online physiotherapy works for fracture rehabilitation

After a cast or surgery, the main treatment for stiffness and weakness is graded exercise, which can be guided and checked on video

Getting to a clinic is hard on crutches or when you cannot drive

Your physiotherapist follows your doctor's weight-bearing instructions exactly and progresses them as your X-rays allow

For older adults after a fall, your physiotherapist also looks at balance and home hazards to help prevent the next fall

What we assess via video

Movement in the injured joint and the joints around it
Swelling and skin on camera
Strength compared with the other side
Grip and hand use after wrist and arm fractures
Walking and weight bearing after leg fractures
Your doctor's instructions and latest X-ray report

What treatment includes

Gentle movement exercises, progressed as healing allows
Strengthening for the injured limb
Hand and grip exercises after wrist fractures
Walking training with crutches, walker or stick
Balance work and fall prevention
Return to work, household tasks and sport

How an online session works

1

Set up your space

Position your phone or laptop so your physiotherapist can see you move. You need about 2 metres of space.

2

Live assessment and treatment

Your physiotherapist watches your movement, corrects your form, and guides you through exercises in real time. Each session is 45 minutes to 1 hour.

3

Progress and adjust

Your physiotherapist tracks your improvement each session and adjusts exercises as you get stronger. You also receive exercises to practice between sessions.

What you need at home

A phone or laptop on a stand
A table and chair for arm and hand exercises
Your crutches, walker or stick after a leg fracture
Your doctor's notes and latest X-ray report

What a typical course looks like

After the cast or sling comes off

Easing stiffness and swelling with gentle movement.

As healing progresses

Strengthening and more weight bearing, as your doctor allows.

Final stage

Full function and return to work, sport or daily routines.

This is a typical outline, not a fixed schedule. Your physiotherapist adjusts it to your progress and your doctor's advice.

When in-person care is better

See a doctor urgently for pain that keeps increasing, numbness, a cast that feels too tight, fingers or toes changing colour, a swollen painful calf, or breathlessness. Your physiotherapist will not progress weight bearing or loading beyond what your doctor has cleared, and will ask you to get an X-ray review if healing seems slower than expected.

Frequently asked questions

When should physiotherapy start after a fracture?
It depends on the fracture and how it was treated. Exercises for nearby joints can often start while you are still in a cast, and more begins once the cast or sling comes off or your surgeon gives clearance. Share your doctor's notes on WhatsApp and your physiotherapist will plan around them.
My wrist is still stiff weeks after the cast came off. Is that normal?
Some stiffness and weakness after a cast are very common, and they usually improve with a structured exercise plan. If the hand is very swollen, unusually painful or changing colour, or it is not improving, see your doctor as well.
My mother broke her hip. Can she do rehab online?
Yes, once she is home and can stand with a walker with a helper nearby. Rehab after a hip fracture focuses on walking, strength and preventing another fall. If she is very frail at first, start with in-person care and move online when she is ready.

Arranging this for a parent?

Many of our patients are older adults whose sons and daughters live in other cities or abroad. You can book on WhatsApp from anywhere, join sessions by video and receive progress updates.
