Online pelvic floor physiotherapy for women

Leaking urine when you cough, laugh or lift, needing to rush to the toilet, or a feeling of heaviness in the vagina are common after childbirth and with age. They are not something women simply have to live with. Pelvic floor muscle training, guided by a physiotherapist, is the first treatment recommended for many of these problems, and it can be done privately from home. Sessions available in English, Telugu, and Hindi, and you can ask for a female or male physiotherapist.

Why online physiotherapy works for pelvic floor problems

Many women in India never seek help for leakage or pelvic heaviness because of embarrassment. A private video session at home, with a female physiotherapist, removes much of that barrier

Pelvic floor training is done at home every day anyway. What most women lack is someone to check they are using the right muscles and to progress the exercises, which a physiotherapist can do on video

Bladder habits, fluid intake, constipation, lifting and posture all affect the pelvic floor, and they can all be reviewed and changed through conversation and a simple bladder diary

Sessions can fit around work, household duties or a baby's feeding times

What we assess via video

Your symptoms: when leakage happens, urgency, frequency and night-time toilet visits
A three-day bladder diary of fluid intake and toilet visits
Whether you can find and contract your pelvic floor muscles, using guided self-checks
Breathing, posture and how you lift and strain
Bowel habits and constipation
Pregnancy and delivery history, menopause and other health conditions

What treatment includes

Learning to contract and relax the pelvic floor correctly
A progressive pelvic floor training programme
Bladder retraining for urgency and frequency
"The knack": tightening before a cough, sneeze or lift
Advice on fluids, constipation and toilet posture
Safe return to exercise, lifting and work

How an online session works

1

Set up your space

Position your phone or laptop so your physiotherapist can see you move. You need about 2 metres of space.

2

Live assessment and treatment

Your physiotherapist watches your movement, corrects your form, and guides you through exercises in real time. Each session is 45 minutes to 1 hour.

3

Progress and adjust

Your physiotherapist tracks your improvement each session and adjusts exercises as you get stronger. You also receive exercises to practice between sessions.

What you need at home

A private room where you will not be disturbed
A phone or laptop, with the camera on or off as you prefer for parts of the session
A mat or bed to lie on
A three-day bladder diary, which your physiotherapist will explain how to keep

What a typical course looks like

Sessions 1 to 3

Understanding your symptoms and bladder diary, finding the right muscles, and a starting routine.

Sessions 4 to 9

Building strength and endurance, bladder retraining, and using the pelvic floor during daily activities.

Sessions 10 to 14

Exercise in standing and during movement, return to activity, and a long-term routine.

This is a typical outline, not a fixed schedule. Your physiotherapist adjusts it to your progress and your doctor's advice.

Conditions covered

Leaking urine with cough, sneeze or exercise
Urgency and overactive bladder
Pelvic heaviness or prolapse symptoms

When in-person care is better

See a doctor, ideally a gynaecologist or urologist, for blood in the urine, burning or fever, being unable to pass urine, bleeding after menopause, a lump you can see or feel coming out of the vagina, or new loss of bowel control. Online sessions do not include internal examination. If your physiotherapist thinks an internal assessment or a specialist opinion would help, they will tell you.

Frequently asked questions

Will my physiotherapist be a woman?
Yes, if you ask for one. You can request a female physiotherapist when you book, and we will always match that request.
How can pelvic floor physiotherapy work without an internal examination?
Research supports pelvic floor training for stress leakage, and much of the assessment comes from your symptoms, a bladder diary and guided self-checks you do privately. Your physiotherapist teaches you how to feel whether you are using the right muscles. If they think an internal assessment is needed, for example if you cannot find the muscles at all, they will advise where to get one.
I am 65 and have leaked urine for years. Is it too late?
No. Pelvic floor training helps women of all ages, including many years after childbirth and after menopause. Improvement may take a little longer, but it is often significant.
How long before I see results?
Many women notice some improvement within a few weeks. Muscles take time to strengthen, so the full benefit of pelvic floor training usually builds over about three months of regular practice.
